Congratulations to AXIS

Spurgeon’s AXIS project in Stoke is the first of its kind in the country to win a prestigious award for its mentoring and befriending service.

The Approved Provider Standard is supported by the Department for Children, Families and Schools and recognizes excellent practice.

AXIS works with children and young people aged between 7 and 19, to prevent and reduce offending and promote positive life opportunities, including independent living skills, education and training.

The Mentor Co-ordinator was delighted with the award and commented.

“Young people in custody often come from chaotic backgrounds and families sometimes find they are unable to write or visit them. It’s meant a great deal to these young people to feel valued by people in the community who have given up their time to visit them. We have been able to challenge young people’s perspective of the community and raise their self esteem and literacy levels and I am very grateful for my staff and the committed volunteers whose efforts are reflected by this prestigious award.”
